The hit series on FX will return with a third series this Fall with American Horror Story: Coven, which is currently being filmed in New Orleans.

We've already seen a first look at series star, Jessica Lange, and now we learn about what to expect from her character in the third season as well as a few others.

Per the third series title, "Coven," Jessica Lange will play a witch named Fiona, where at the Television Critics Association's summer press tour (via THR) the actress offered the following: "Some of us play witches, some of us play historical characters. I do play a witch. We move back and forth in time. It encompasses a lot of different stories. I've shot two days so far, one day entrances and exits, the other day a scene. I don't know who the character is yet. It comes in little dribs and drabs."

American Horror Story: Coven will also feature real life characters that are just as horrific as the series suggests. Academy-award winning actress Kathy Bates will play the real life persona of Marie Delphine LaLaurie (pictured left), aka Madame LaLaurie, a prominent member of the Louisiana social scene who happens to be a serial killer of black slaves.

Likewise,  Angela Bassett will portray Marie Laveau (pictured right), a known practioner of Voodoo, stating here character is loosely based on the real life counterpart: "It's been interesting being in New Orleans, there's such a regard and respect for who she was. She was a woman in 1801 who lives to be 80 years old, who is a very influential person in the city. My character is based loosely on her."

Speaking of all things that cackle in the night, American Horror Story: Coven will not only feature Jessica Lange as a witch, but witches from Salem will make their way South as they escape persecution.

We also learn this time up, Sarah Paulson will play daughter to Jessica Lange's character, with Cordelia.

American Horror Story: Coven won't be all dark as the title suggests, as this year looks to offer more humor than any of the previous and be a lot of fun for the audience.

"This year is a drama but there is a lot of humor, and we are embracing a kind of velocity and fun with the series," executive producer Tim Minear said. "It's not the same as it was the past two years, but I think it can be more fun for the audience."

Minear also goes on to state that American Horror Story: Coven won't be all bedknobs and broomsticks as themes presented throughout this season suggest mature topics.

"Within that idea, the idea of minority groups going after each other and doing the work of the larger culture for the larger culture [will be explored]," Minear offered. "While there is a strong feminist theme that runs throughout Coven this year, there are also themes of race, oppression and there is a very strong theme of family, specifically mothers and daughters."

American Horror Story: Coven airs this Fall on FX also starring Evan Peters, Taissa Farmiga, Lily Rabe, Frances Conroy, Gabourey Sidibe, Patti LuPone and Emma Roberts with returning fan-favorite actress Jamie Brewer.
