star trekBack in February Bryan Fuller (Pushing Daises, NBC's Hannibal) mentioned that he had discussed a new Star Trek TV series with Brian Singer (X-Men).

They hoped J.J. Abrams would give them the keys to Starfleet HQ enabling them to warp a new a new corner of Gene Roddenberry’s multiverse to the small screen.

Well, we get an update from Fuller, via EW, who says they need to bring things back down to impulse power as nothing much is going to happen until the Star Trek sequel is finished, and in addition, the new Star Trek TV series would be with director J.J. Abrams' blessing.

Bryan and I are big fans of Trek and have discussed a take on what we would do, and we would love to do it. I don’t think anything is going to happen in any official capacity until after the next movie comes out. And I’m sure it would be wisely under J.J. Abrams’ purview of what happens. He’s the guardian of Trek right now.

The as-of-yet unnamed Star Trek sequel has a May 17th, 2013 release date, so most likely a new Star Trek TV series wouldn't hit until 2014.

Star Trek 2 in 3D, is directed by J.J. Abrams and stars Chris Pine as Capt. James T. Kirk, Zachary Quinto as Spock, Karl Urban as Leonard "Bones" McCoy, Zoe Saldana as Nyota Uhura, Simon Pegg as Scotty, Anton Yelchin as Pavel Chekov and John Cho as Hikaru Sulu.
