TV Review: Green Lantern: The Animated Series -- "Cold Fury"
created 02/03/2013 - 3:11pm
I am very sad to have heard this brilliant series detailing a version of the Green Lantern mythos has been canceled. That makes each episode, past and present, a dessert to be savored and devoured slowly and with love.
After the shocker of "Loss" last week, the most recent episode of Green Lantern: The Animated Series blasts off with "Cold Fury" and an inevitable battle for the life of this universe with -- the Anti-Monitor!
Hal, Kilowog, Zox and a Guardian are on the run from the Manhunters who in turn are heralding the arrival of the Anti-Monitor.
The Guardian tries to reestablish control of the Manhunters and goes toe to toe with the Anti-Monitor itself. As usual, when they are truly needed on the side of good the little smurfs always are found wanting. One zap from its foe and it is goodbye Guardian.
In the meantime, aboard Hal's ship, Aya has miraculously escaped death and re-emerges, more the worse for wear. Razer is more than glad to see her, but tries to hide his love. This confuses Aya no end and as she tries to ignore her own emotions, she devises the way to defeat the Anti-Monitor.
But that solution and its ramifications will change the lives of these Lanterns -- and this particular universe -- forever.
I cannot tell you how superior this production is in all areas. Its cancellation is just another sad albatross we cosmic fans need to bear.
To end this review, I would like to thank those behind this Cartoon Network offering for making Saturday mornings fun again for an all too brief time.
Green Lantern: The Animated Series will forever remain a TV classic.
